Jose M. Faleiro

Jose Faleiro is a computer scientist with expertise in high-performance distributed data-centric systems.

Jose has had widespread academic and industrial impact. His PhD dissertation on deterministic multi-core transaction processing won the 2020 SIGMOD Jim Gray Doctoral Dissertation award. His dissertation work inspired a wave of research and implementation of parallel transaction processing on blockchains (including on Facebook/Meta's Novi). Jose pushed his dissertation research outside academia by creating a practical parallel replication mechanism for primary-backup systems which was implemented and widely deployed across Facebook/Meta's MySQL databases. His research exploits further include serverless systems, distributed shared logs, ultra-high-performance key-value stores (Anna at UC Berkeley and FASTER at Microsoft), geo-replicated systems (Orleans), and distributed agreement protocols.

Jose was formerly a research scientist at Microsoft Research Redmond and a post-doc at UC Berkeley. He holds a PhD and Masters in Computer Science from Yale University, and a Bachelor's in Computer Science from BITS Pilani, Rajasthan, India.
